Minimum Requirements

Following is required for the successful install and usage of this theme.

1. Framework & Theme

  1. WordPress (Latest Version) – freely download it from website.
  2. Genesis Framework (v2.0+) – I am not giving the Genesis Framework for any circumstances. You’ll purchase directly from website.
  3. Starter Pro Child Theme – purchase directly from Genesis Developer website.

2. Plugins

  1. Simple Social Icons
  2. Genesis eNews Extended
  3. Contact Form 7
  4. Attorney (Starter Pro Theme is providing.)

Download the Starter Pro and all skins

  1. Login to My Account page.
  2. Click on files link and download all zip files on your local machine

Installing Framework, Theme and Skin

Before you start the theme installation, make sure the latest version of WordPress is already installed and you have the login details of your Dashboard.

There are two ways to install the Genesis Framework and child theme: manual file transfer via FTP and the automatic ‘Upload Theme’ option from the WordPress Dashboard. Below are instructions for both of these options.

1. Uploading through the WordPress Dashboard

  • Log in to your WordPress dashboard and go to Appearance > Themes option.
  • Click the Add New button at the top.
  • Click the Upload Theme button at the right side of the ‘Add Themes’.
  • Click Browse button and then find or browse to the theme zip file on your computer. Select the file and then click the Install button.
  • Next you will follow the same procedure and upload the zip file of Starter Pro child theme

2. Uploading the framework & theme via FTP client

  • Unzip or extract the zip file into respective folders.
  • Using a FTP client, log in to your server. You can either use the web FTP option located in the hosting control panel or use any free FTP software program (like FileZilla).
  • Navigate to wp-content/themes directory (folder) location. Transfer the ‘genesis’ and ‘starter-pro’ folder to this folder location.

Installing the Skin

You can’t upload the skin via WordPress Dashboard. You’ll use FTP, CPanel, Desktop Server or any other software and upload the files on your server.

  1. Extract or Unzip the file on your local machine
  2. Now upload the custom-starter folder from skins/skin-5 folder to wp-content folder

Now go to Dashboard -> Appearance -> Themes page and activate the Starter Pro child theme.

Note: You will not modify or edit any core files of starter-pro folder. You will add your custom CSS or PHP code in custom-starter folder which will be located in wp-content folder. So you can easily update the Starter Pro theme from Dashboard and will not loss your custom work.

  1. Login to My Account page (
  2. Scroll down little bit and you will get “My License Key(s) details” area.
  3. Click on the “plus” icon and expend it.
  4. Now copy the key.
  5. Navigate to your site Dashboard -> Starter Pro -> License Key page.
  6. Paste the code in license key input box and hit on Activate License button.

After activating the key you’ll get the auto update notice at your Dashboard (When new version will release) like this:

Import Theme Options (required)

Starter Pro child theme is providing the import/export option. So you can easily move your existing theme settings from one site to another site. Once you upload an import file, it will automatically overwrite your existing settings. This cannot be undone.

  1. Download the Starter Pro Theme setup zip file and extract or unzip on your local machine.
  2. Now login to your Dashboard and navigate to Starter Pro -> Import/Export page
  3. Click on Choose File button and select the “starter-pro-theme-settings.json” file from “starter-pro-setup/skin-5/theme-options” folder
  4. Click on “Upload File and Import” button

Import All Widget Areas (required)

Widget Areas

Starter Pro child theme has in-built Widget Generator module. Therefore you can quickly create the widget areas from Dashboard. If Widget Generator is activated, then you’ll get new sub menu under Appearance menu.

Follow the steps at below and import the widget areas which are using on this theme.

  1. Navigate to Dashboard -> Tools -> Import.
  2. Click on WordPress link Import Tools
  3. If you did not install the WordPress Importer plugin, you should see a pop-up box. Click the install button. After plugin installation, click on the ‘Activate Plugin & Run Importer’ link.
  4. Click the Choose File button and browse to select the widget-areas.xml file. It should be located in the “starter-pro-setup/skin-5/xml” folder.
  5. Click on “Upload File and Import” button import-xml-file

Now your widget areas will show at Appearance -> Widget Areas page and add/edit widgets at Appearance -> Widgets page.

How to Create New Widget Areas

Make sure that Widget Generator module is activated. Otherwise you will activate from Starter Pro settings page. Expend the General Settings section and find the ACTIVATE/DEACTIVATE row. Now enable the Widget Generator module.

  • Go to Appearance -> Widget Areas page
  • Click on Add New button
  • Fill up the form. You will enter the unique widget ID for every widget areas.
  • Hit on publish button and live the widget areas
  • Now go to Appearance -> Widgets page and drag&drop the widget in this widget areas
  • Refresh your site and your selected widget will display at that widget area.

Add Site LogoAt first login to your Dashboard. Now click Appearance -> Header menu and it will take to you a new page. Click on “Add New Image” button and will get a new popup box. Upload your site logo or you can choose the existing image from media library. After selecting the logo, you will click on “Select and Crop” button. It will go to next page. Again click on “Skip Cropping” button, if you want the full width logo. Except you can crop the image. Lastly you will hit on “Save & Publish” button and publish your site logo.

Recommended image size is 300 x 60.

There have another features: Alternate Mobile Logo. So you can show the alternate logo for mobile device. For this features, you will enter the correct value in breakpoint input field.

Add Favicon:
Click on Appearance -> Customize link. Expend the “Site Identity” panel. Upload the favicon at Site Icon section. Save this setting by clicking on the “Save & Publish” button.

Setting Header Right Widget Area

1. Add Menu

At first you will create a menu. Read this user guide and register the menu for your site. After creating the menu, you’ll go to Appearance -> Widgets page and drag&drop the Custom Menu widget at Header Right widget areas. Select the correct menu from drop down list and save the widget by clicking on the “Save” button. Now menu will appear at right side of your site logo.

2. Add Social Profile Icons

Demo site is using the Simple Social Icons plugin. Yet you do not install this plugin, then navigate to Appearance -> Install Plugins page. Hover on “Simple Social Icons” text and “install” link will appear. Click on the link and plugin will activate quickly.

After activating the plugin you will go to widgets page (Appearance -> Widgets). Drag&Drop the “Text” widget at Header Right widget area and put the following code. See at below:

Lets drag&drop the Simple Social Icons widget at Header Right widget areas and setting the widget. Now refresh your home page and you will get this:

3. Add Search Icon

There have another in-built widget “Toggle Search Form”. Drag&drop this widget at header right widget area.

4. Add Mobile Menu

Starter Pro child theme is providing the “Starter Mobile Menu” widget. Drag&drop this widget at Header Right widget area, select the menu from drop down list, check the “push body content” checkbox and click on “save” button. This menu will appear on your mobile device. For desktop you will get the menu from Custom Menu widget.

Setup Home Page

Home page is a static front page. So you will create a page from Dashboard -> Pages -> Add New page. Enter title, put the following code in WP Editor (Text Mode), select full width layout from Layout Settings section and set a featured image. This featured image is using as a background image of Home Section 1 widget area. Next publish the page by clicking on the Publish button. and go to Settings -> Reading page, select “A static page (select below)” radio box and choose your home page from “Front Page” drop down list.

Hit on Download Now button, copy the code and paste in WP Editor (Text Mode).

Import Demo Widgets

Home page is widgetized. 8 widget areas are using on home page and these widget areas are created by Widget Generator module. Now follow the steps and setup the widgets for your home page content.

  • Download the Demo Widgets zip file and unzip it on your local machine. You will get demo-widget.wie file.
  • Install the “Widget Importer & Exporter” plugin.
  • Go to Tools -> Widget Importer & Exporter page.
  • Click on “Choose File” button.
  • Open a new popup box. Locate the demo-widget.wie file on your machine and click on “Open” button.
  • Now all widgets are imported successfully.
  • De-activate the Widget Importer & Exporter plugin and delete it from your site.
  • Refresh the Home page.

Add Background Image

Home Section #3 & #4 widget areas have background image. Those images are coming from Theme Customizer. Go to Appearance -> Customize page, expend Background Image panel and upload the image for Home Section 3 and Home Section 4 widget areas. Save the settings (click on Save & Publish button).

Creating Blog Page

  • Go to Dashboard-> Pages -> Add New
  • Enter Title
  • Set a Featured Image
  • Publish the page
  • Navigate to Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading page
  • Select this page as a post page and save the settings

Full Width 3 Columns Blog Page

  • Go to Add New page
  • Enter Title
  • Set Featured Image
  • Select “Full Width 3 Columns Blog Page” template from Page Attributes -> Template drop down list
  • Publish the Page

Creating Contact Us Page

  • Go to Add New Page (Dashboard-> Pages -> Add New)
  • Add Title
  • Add Content in WP Editor(Optional)
  • Set a featured image
  • Select Full Width Layout from Layout Settings metabox
  • Select “Contact Us” template from Page Attributes -> Template drop down list
  • After selecting the “Contact Us” template, you will get “Contact Us Page Settings” metabox section

  • Add Heading Title
  • Add Short description
  • Add shortcode of contact form in Contact form field. Demo site is using the CF7 plugin. You can try other plugin.
  • Setup Google Map
  • Publish the page.

Creating Post Type for Attorneys

  • Download the Starter Pro Plugins zip file
  • Unzip the file on your local machine
  • Login to dashboard and go to plugin’s add new page (Plugins -> Add New)
  • Click on “Upload Plugin” button
  • Click on “Choose File” button and select the “” file from starter-pro-plugins folder
  • Click on “Install Now” button and activate the plugin
  • Now you will get a new CPT “attorney” and one new menu “Attorneys” will appear at left panel.

  • Go to Add New Page (Dashboard-> Pages -> Add New)
  • Add Title
  • Select “Attorneys” template from from Page Attributes -> Template drop down list
  • Set a featured image
  • Select Full Width Layout from Layout Settings metabox
  • Publish the page.
